An introduction to CAD, CAM and using the CNC Router at Gizmo Session Dates: Thursday, May 15th Thursday, May 22nd Thursday, May 29th Thursday, June 5th Thursday, June 12th Thursday, June 19th Time: 6:00 - 9:00 PM Description: Curious about how digital design meets hands-on making? This 6-week introductory class will guide you through the fundamentals of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining using a CNC router in a woodworking environment. Perfect for beginners, this course walks you through the full process—from designing your project in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, to creating toolpaths with CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing), and finally operating a CNC router to bring your ideas to life in wood. What you’ll learn: Basics of CAD software for design Introduction to CAM software for toolpath generation Safe setup and operation of a CNC router Material considerations and machine tooling for wood Project workflow from digital file to finished product At the end of the course, you will go home with a personal project you've completed from start to finish: a flat pack plywood stool! Requirements: Basic computer literacy is required. Participants should be comfortable using a mouse and keyboard, navigating the file system (opening, saving, and locating files), and using common keyboard shortcuts (e.g., copy, paste, undo).
